CREATING THE BAGUIO CENTENNIAL COMMISION, DEFINING ITS FUNCTIONS, APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR ITS OPERATIONS, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

 

 

EXPANATORY NOTE

 

    In four years, the City of Baguio will mark the centennial as a chartered City. The summer capital of the Philippines, a premier tourist destination, the educational center of the north and the gateway to the wonderlands of the Cordilleras deserves a decent celebration of its centennial. It takes vision, preparation and hardwork. And to start with, the early organization of a Baguio Centennial Commission.

    NOW THERFORE, on motion of Hon. Chan-Rondez, Hon. Tabora and Hon. Balajadia, seconded by Hon. Farinas, Hon. Pangan and Hon. Weygan,

    BE IT ORDAINED BY THE SANGGUNLANG PANGLUNGSOD (CITY COUNCIL) IN SESSION ASSEMBLED THAT:

   

SECTION 1. There is hereby created a Baguio Centennial Commission composed of ten (10) distinguished citizens of the City representing a cross section of the populace to start the preparations for the celebration of Baguio City's centennial on 01 September 2009.

 

SECTION 2. The members of the Baguio Centennial Commission shall be appointed by the City Mayor, shall take their respective oaths before assumption of their functions but not later than 01 September 2005, and shall receive no compensation except reasonable honoraria for regular meetings actually held and attended by them.

 

SECTION 3. It shall be the task of the Baguio Centennial Commission to conceptualize the theme and direction of the centennial celebrations, formulate the activities that shall be held in connection with the said celebrations, organize committees and sub-committees which shall plan and implement specific events related to the centennial celebrations, and see the implementation of such plans and programs.

 

SECTION 4. There is hereby created a Baguio Centennial Fund which shall be raised from public and private sources to defray the cost of implementing the plans and programs of the Baguio Centennial celebrations. As seed money, there is hereby appropriated from the unappropriated surplus of the General Fund the sum of One Million Pesos (P1,000,000.00). All receipts and expenditures of the Baguio Centennial Commission shall be subject to audit by the Commission on Audit.

 

SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Code of 1991.
